“depa” issues invitation to design costumes for Thailand Pavilion officials at World Expo 2020 Dubai

Digital Economy Promotion Agency (depa), Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, creates engagement with the Thai people through a competition for young talented designers to design uniforms for officials at Thailand Pavilion in “World Expo 2020 Dubai Costume Design Contest”. The contest is designed to showcase Thailand’s talent on the global stage, competing for two return tickets from Bangkok to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, as well as certificates of achievements. Interested participants can submit entries from now until 5th January 2020.

Dr. Nattapon Nimmanphatcharin, President /CEO of the Digital Economy Promotion Agency (depa), revealed that depa is opening up the opportunity for creative Thai people with a talent in design to submit their designs for uniforms or costumes of the officials who will supervise Thailand Pavilion under the campaign of “World Expo 2020 Dubai Costume Design Contest”. Part of the campaign’s aim is to create more engagement with the Thai youth and Thai general public, especially those with talents in design, and enable them to take pride in demonstrating those abilities on a global stage through displaying their design at the Thailand Pavilion in World Expo 2020 Dubai. The World Expo is the third largest mega event in the world, following only the Olympic Games and the FIFA World Cup in size, and is hosted every 5 years. This year’s World Expo will be held between 20th October 2020 to the 10th April 2021 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

The entries must be for designs for the uniforms for officials of the Thailand Pavilion and must also be in line with the theme of the Thailand Pavilion, “Mobility for the Future”. This theme encompasses connectivity between people, cultures and lifestyles in the digital era, represented through the Thailand Pavilion logo of a flower garland, signifying Thailand’s readiness and openness in welcoming visitors from all around the world with warmth, grace and a smile, as well as other dimensions of Thai culture and Thainess. The costume design itself should be beautiful, unique, modern, graceful and stylish but should also be practical, comfortable to wear, especially in consideration of the climate, as well as be in line with the culture of the host country.

Interested parties should be over the age of 18. Submissions should be in line with the theme of the event, and also include 4 images that demonstrate both use and materials used. The winning designer will work with the organisers to continue to develop the design until it is able to be produced. The winner will also receive two return tickets to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, as well as tickets for the World Expo 2020 Dubai, a Social Choice award, 5,000 baht cash prize, as well as certificates of achievement.

Those interested can submit entries from now until the 5th January 2020. The top 15 designs will be announced in February 2020, with the winner announced in April 2020.
